An Enduring Silence explores the banality of everyday life after the loss of a loved one. This series utilises paint to describe lived moments of solitude and absurdity within an autobiographical experience of grief.

This project utilises still life and figurative painting as a form of processing the lasting impact of grief. The works are informed by my autobiographical experience of losing both parents. The images used are sourced from my phone’s camera roll, drawing upon lived experiences. These images are painted, superimposed over one another. They reflect on the absurdity and banal nature of everyday life when living with significant loss.

An Enduring Silence aims to contribute to a broader dialogue surrounding grief and loss. As society progressively transitions into a majorly secular approach to death, the understanding and dialogue around grief is often private and solitary. This series of works engages with this grief beyond the initial shock of death and instead as a life-long dynamic process.
